Subtransmission failure!

This thread I hope will expose a weak link in the drive train.
My machine was not going into gear properly. Cable adjustment seemed good according to manual. It was grinding going into low.
Now the machine is in the shop getting a new sub transmission.

Mine did the same thing going into low, on the first few rides. Dealer adjusted the shift cable at the first service and after that it engaged properly but popped out of low gear making horrible noises. This is all in the first 150 miles.

It's been there over 3 weeks getting a new I4wd module (never worked from new) and new sub transmission parts.

They told me they will not warranty the sub transmission again, which makes me mad because it had issues from the very first ride.

That is what they told me. Then tried to tell me that I was not trained properly I how to shift from low to high. Think it maybe time to train the dick at the shop.

Got mine back today. Honda denied the sub trans warranty. Luckily my dealer picked up the cost.

I'm not having very much confidence in my honda warranty at this point.

What is with all the children on these forums?

Have you ever spent a ton of money on a product only tor have issue after issue?

You idiots seem more bent out of shape that I'm having issues than I am. Just cant accept that even holy Hondas break.
Jefferson, whats up, are you just posting to stir up trouble. Your reply seems over the top and very defensive. Calling names is not appropriate unless you are running for politics! I kinda like clowns but that is another story.

There is a handful of idiots on another honda sxs forum who can not handle the fact that I've had issues. Lots of Childish responses and basically ruined every tech thread I started with my issues. To the point that the mods deleted them.

None of them even own talons, but just like to stir shit.

His response is pretty telling.

OK, Nauti is new and only posted a few times. Jefferson you have quite a few posts and they all seemed fine to me. For me, I just like to ride and pass on information that I hope is correct and helpful.

I like to use forums for the same reason. I learned a ton from them and try to post what I can in hopes that it will be helpful to others. I'm not going to sugar coat things, I've owned my rig for about 7 weeks, 4 of those weeks were in the shop. So of course my posts aren't going to be all rainbows and unicorns.

I also enjoy some roasting and bs'ing. But it can be annoying when it ruins every tech thread. Luckily, that isn't happening here. So we'll just keep this thread about sub transmission issues.

I suggest anyone who's had even one grind or strange noise when shifting to low, to call honda and express your thoughts on their shift gate design. I still need to do this myself.

You did place the Talon in low and 4 wheel drive didn't you?
If not, no biggie at first I must admit I did that!

I bought my talon 3 months ago. On my second ride I was hearing grinding noises in Low when the gear shifts. I took it to Honda and told them about it. They sent me on my way and told me they cannot do anything unless they can duplicate the problem. So this Saturday, my 4th ride with my boys, I put it into low drive and holy s***t it was griding shaking the whole talon. I took video and took it right in. The service guy told me that I should come to complete stop when changing from high to low. I already knew that! Kinda of a dick thing to say. For three months I have had issues in Low. They say it is the subtransmission. I hope they take care of me

I talked to Honda today and they say they haven't heard much about this. My dealer says they have repaired 5 but none under warranty. Honda said if they hear enough about the problem they will consider helping. Here is part of the email with the number:

Just FYI, Aegis powersports warranty did agree to fix the sub-transmission under warranty. They went to the shop and took pictures but they are going to pay for it.

I had the same issue with it not going into low and now its headed to the shop because there is no low gear and will only shift in high if you use the paddles. Dealer is telling me its 50 50 if honda will warranty.
Had the all the same issues, Honda said it was user fault?? Has to be completely stopped, low idle and shift and wait until t “L” appears. Warranty covered it but specified one time only.
