okay I am new to the talon world. Question I ride more on the street than dirt. Is it okay to ride on the street a lot and does it matter how far you drive on the street? How often should I have my talon checked/serviced?

Welcome.
Yes - you can ride it on the street - use 2WD only. The rear differential is spooled so the rear tires will chirp/bark when turning corners on the street. You will also wear out tires quickly on the street.
The talon is overbuilt/tough. I doubt you will damage the machine by driving on the street. I drive it to pick up the kids from school all the time. Ive also driven 30+ miles on the street at 60mph to get to a trail with no damage incurred.
Check the owners manual for service intervals. Most folks find them adequate.
