I just got back from our first trip to sand mountain, little Sahara, Jericho Utah. we went with a new can-am and Suzuki sxs both with turbos and paddle tires, blew us away. However yes I was able to get around and even ride some of the smaller bowls but not any of the big hills. Overall very impressed with performance and had a blast, will be even better with paddle tires. Feels like you are driving in a snowy parking lot, you drift everywhere. So in short yes you will want to upgrade to paddle tires if you plan on driving in sand much. Only time you use 4-wheel drive is when you get stuck.
