Hey gang of faithful Honda owners. I had a catastrophic mechanical failure. I'm going to see how big red takes care of me. I've waited for years to buy into the SXS's. No I'm not a competition's brand fake out artist. I've ridden off road bikes for 50 years. Still have 2 Honda ct's from the good old days. They still run like a honda. Except for the fuel additives that have cryptonite. Hold tight I'll keep y'all posted.

My dealership and Honda aren’t stepping up as of yet to this issue. I’ve been on the phone wasting time for hours. My vacation compromised/ruined. Frustrating, but I also have a talon 350 miles away from dealer which has a hole in the engine case where the rod burst threw it. I’m holding off sending this out to the public. I’m miffed they don’t handle this effectively. Looks like Honda of America is going to send out a rep with a trailer to take it away.

Upon arrival in the sierras. I trailered talon without incident on an open car trailer with beautiful 75 dog weather. It started at sea level no problem, dealer salesman drove it up onto trailer. I tried starting it as instructed by manual and dealers recommended procedure. It wanted to start just wouldn’t fire. I jumped it thinking not enough cranking volts. Nothing still I’m at 8000 ft elevation. I have other motorcycles, generators , cars, boats. Never had issues. It stayed in trailer down to Bishop 4500ft, maybe vapor lock?... still nothing. Finally I pumped the pedal a couple of times after numerous attempts at starting, clearing etc. and it fired up. It ran rough wanting to die. I just feathered it with rpms trying to warm it up while watching gauge. It wasn’t being a Honda. Then a horrific sound along with parts dancing across pavement left a hole under rear cylinder and top of case the size of a baseball. I never put it in gear never rolled off trailer. Disbelief this could happen. I’m sure the dealer thought operator error, a rare occurrence etc. anyway. I’m not giving up on Honda but I bought s new machine I don’t want this repaired, I’m asking for new talon, or money back. Maybe some accessories for the inconveniences.

A rep came today to my shop and picked it up to have it evaluated. He asked me to sign a repair order. I reworded it as a release order. I will no way accept a repair. I bought a new machine for a reason. I like to do my own maintainance and keep a tight fluid change, tune, filters, overall inspection for all components. I asked the dealer if there was any issues they were aware of starting up the Talon. He said no he personally drove it off showroom floor. It’s been seven days so far and I haven’t had any enjoyment whatsoever. 3 days of phone calls and back and forth tail chasing. My vacation!

Yes no word yet, I'm paying for this daily. Now that I'm back at work and no time off in the near future to use the ATV. I know there are procedures but this is one of those stories you hear about that would never happen to you. My pals all have opinions on why I dont have a new talon or rzr in my possession to enjoy. If it were a working tool a water pump or a generator that shut down a job instead of a recreation machine it would be a different story. Or a brand new Honda accord for less $ that grenaded or an outboard motor. I'm losing sleep over this mess. Some body step up and make this right!!!

Is this the rude troll monger? Quick to insult somebody you dont know. I'll post pics when I feel its appropriate. I'm basically informing good people regarding what may happen to others. Although I'm still a Honda fan I felt frustration as days went by without anybody taking charge and getting me in a seat. Corporation agendas and protective procedures. Maybe run the talon for a few miles if possible with dealer go thru the gears and be assured it's not defective so this assumption doesn't spoil your vacation.

Not a good practice for Honda to have during a time they're entering a competitive segment.
Hopefully you're just one of few and not part of a growing problem over at Honda.
Do keep us posted when they get back to you.
Yes I'm still at a loss for the epic adventure that was planned. On top of all the grief it was a beautiful week in Mammoth Lakes. Had to ski everyday. First world problems, we certainly are lucky. I'll be out roosting soon enough. My ktm is a beast on those trails.

Yea thats it. Im a troll monger? (Whatever that is?) You show up claiming catastrophic failure with little to no details. I did not call you a troll, I said it felt like a troll post based on little to no details! But steam coming out your ears and other vague remarks? You didnt provide even a hint of the problem until after I posted that! Even then, it was filled with a bunch of un-necessary drama and “I will post pics when I feel its appropriate!” Yet you call me rude!?!?
Whatever. I’m out!

Any further news on your issue? Not a troll just a concerned owner of a 2019 R. Just curious.
Hi, American Honda came thru, my dealership of purchase couldn’t do much because of distance from location. Rep picked it up trailered it to a dealer closest. Post evaluation Honda Corp. sent new engine to dealer which service dept. swapped out. It was pretty fast after the initial 5 weeks of waiting. The rep is very helpful and handled the event well. He had several bonus Honda accessories added to the talon installed and delivered to me about 150 miles away. I drove to the dealer and spoke with mechanic in service. There was a bolt identical to the intake manifold bolts in the combustion chamber. That was the culprit that sent the rod thru the case. Evidently it wound up in there during some point of assembly. A rare case for Honda. Now that the drama is past, overall I am satisfied with the results, we are having a blast in it. The extra swag for compensation is appreciated. Alum doors, roof, mirrors, glass windshield with wiper and wiring/ switch assembly all installed. Don’t know what to do about the engine #s yet on the title if that’s an issue but stuff happens. Sorry I lost interest in keeping you in the know after being insulted. There’s always 1 that will spoil it for everybody. Kind of weird it started at dealership to drive up on trailer. That bolt must have been bouncing around and finally got into a position that stopped the piston short and the rod kept pushing till it cut loose. Wow what a Horrible noise that made. Good luck be safe.

I can definitely feel ur pain brother. I had both passenger side tires pop off the bead and flip me over causing some serious damage to my roll cage and swingarm bar. Honda basically told me its not there problem and have my insurance take care of it they are an awful company that doesn’t stand behind there product Ive been riding dirtbikes 4 wheelers etc my entire life and im 53 and never had a bead pop on a rim let alone 2 at the same time. Unreal the way they treat there customers
