Hey all,

Looking for a spot to tap into key on power under the hood.

I tapped into the rear tail lights for the rear of the car, however need key on for the front and didn't want to rip apart the headlights for this (I know this are switched/headlight switch).

Is anyone familiar with a spot at which I could tap into under the hood? Purchased a bus bar but I didn't run the cable from the battery to the hood just yet. Thanks

Under the hood by the power steering, there is a harness wrapped up that is a hot and ground for the winch, there is also a plug that has a white with black strip and a green wire. The White with black strip is a keyed on power. It is there for your winch install. (Thank you Honda). Not sure what your powering, but that may work for you.

Hey, thank you for the quick reply! I found the winch power, however I believe that is always on because we had to connect it at the battery. I'm referring to the one at which was wrapped up for the winch. I connected it to my relay, so we're good there I just wish it was key on.

As for the second plug you're referring to please see the pictures attached and let me know if that's the one. I found this on a store page, guessing that's key on, just a small plug though. I am guessing I could cut that end off and tap into key on power there? If so I tried to look at it this morning and it had a rubber end on the connection as if you couldn't plug into it (maybe just a water seal until you're ready to use it?)

yes just a water seal and female holder - you are on it.

It is plugged into the blue holder on the frame. It was a pita for me to get out of the dummy blue holder. I found a pre-wired adapter that split into 2 circuits - I ran one circuit to a gauge and one circuit to my relay panel for the accessories.

Yes, i was referring to the white with black strip wire for keyed power. i wouldn't cut it, just use a wire tap to get the power, leave the plug capped.

I would recommend never using wire taps on anything. They are a source of internal wiring corrosion, increased resistance, wire breakage and failure. Just fyi.
I soldered and shrink wrapped everything possible for the connections. I should be good to go, we'll see how she holds up.

Honda already has a winch wire that runs from the battery compartment to the front of the vehicle that you can connect to your bus bar. It is located in the battery box and is capped off with blue tape for you to connect to your battery. The other end is under your hood on the driver side, down below and is also capped off with blue tape. You will find it if you look. This is an easy way to get your power to the front of your vehicle. Unfortunately, it will be live all of the time and will require a switch to shut off anything you connect to it. No biggie though because switches are easy to mount. Hope this helps.

There is a keyed power under the hood with a plug on it. I believe it is a white with green strip. If you research winch install, it will identify the keyed power pig tail for the winch.

What is the secret to getting the plug out of the holder?

Jesus F*%k, don't use scotch locks or wire splices, EVER! Like Sinner says, they are trouble. I was a Honda tech for 10 years and had to diagnose plenty of electrical issues that were caused by these things. Goldwings especially with all the lights guys would put on. Every time I had to install new accessories on anything that came with scotch locks, I would put them in a box and after 10 years I had a box 10x10x6 full of them. Just wanted to see how many i could collect over the years!😂
