What gas mileage are you getting over what type of terrain? So my riding is desert, with a combination of dirt roads, sandy washes, rocky hill climbs and descents; speeds from crawling to stretches I can open it up. One of my big concerns with the Talon was the 7 gallon gas tank. My RZR 800 had that, my 1000 9.5 gallons. Both with a reliable range of 120 miles, though on one ride I got 147 miles on my 1000 with .1 left in the tank.

Here is what I am getting in the Talon: (filling tank to top of the fill spout)

1st ride 104.4 mi 7.6 gallons / 13.73 mpg / 27.8 mph moving average / max speed 68.6 mph
2nd ride 93 mi 6.36 gallons / 14.6 mpg / 23.6 mph moving average/ max speed 76.4 mph

3rd ride 91 mi / about 6 gallons / 15 mpg / 20.7 mph moving avg / 56.9 max (using 3 gallon tank to fill from)
4th ride 87 mi about 5 to 5.5 gallons 15.8 - 17.4 mpg (using 3 gallon tank to fill from) forgot to start gps

5th ride 83.7 mi / 5.51 gallons / 15.19 mpg / 24.6 moving avg / max speed 70.1
(Avg and max speed measured by gps, running 30" tires, speedo shows about 3 mph slower)

So at 15 mpg avg that gives a range to empty 108 miles. I was hoping it would get better say 20 mpg then the 7.2 gallon tank would make sense. I carry a 3 gallon rotopax tank so 135 mi about it?

  • My buddy's new RZR Pro got 15 mpg riding with me on ride #5 with a 12 gallon tank his range is 180 miles.

I have to say the 7 gallon tank was a mistake by Honda. What are people supposed to do when they start installing the turbo kit? At the dunes that will likely be a problem.

Yesterday did a steep climbing and descending trail ride from 2400' to over 5200' much of the ride in low and parts of the ride I kept it in manual. 39.2 miles 2.82 gallons 13.8 mpg which I thought was pretty good given the conditions.

I've only checked a couple times but in the past, easy trail riding with the wife, I got pretty close to 20 mpg. Full bore dirt roads mixed with climbing by myself (wifey doesn't like that kind of riding) I get around 15 mpg.

Fun filled 4 days last weekend at the sand dunes (notorious for bad mileage). 2 people in the car and no pussy footing around, plenty of pedal to the metal. Lots of fast riding, climbing sand hills and miles of bowling, all bad on gas mileage. 192 miles, 14.9 gallons, 12.88 mpg. For reference, this is about 50% better than my last machine (2006 Rhino so not saying much there) and about 25% better than by BIL's RXR 800.
