Hey guys... just a few questions

I am looking into buying the 2020/2021 talon 1000r. Picking from these two I’ve did a lot of reading and can’t seem to decide. Is the fox live suspension worth the extra $$$.

Background: I have only ever been a RZR owner with that being said I am looking at either a talon 1000r or the 2020 RZR xp 1000 turbo.

From all the owners of prior SXS, would you say that the Honda 1000r is well worth it over the RZR?? Most of the riding I do consist of sand dunes (Saint Anthony, glamis, etc) Any input or advice on which way to go???

I for one am not a fan.. being a driver not a passenger. Any input or advice on which way to go???
In the end you have to make up your mind. Most people think what they bought is the best other wise they would have picked up the Talon, but that is only true after 2019 as earlier there were no Talons. Try to find someone that has one and drives in the area you are so you can get a test ride or perhaps even drive it. Best way to decide is to drive them on the same course. Trying to make up your mind based on other peoples input is a tough one. Good luck and hope someone on this forum can add a bit of information as well.

To compare apples to apples I would say your options need to have a turbo Talon....for the sand turbo power is fun! I would take a Turbo Talon over a turbo RZR all day. But that's just my opinion!:p

Now that they claim to have straightened out the effed up fuel mapping that may be a viable option. Waiting for more feedback on that front.

I totally agree! I have been following it and do feel like it is fixed and ready to go! I plan to put one on now in the next year! Turbo and banging gears takes my back to my car days....so much fun!:D

Ok I can tell you this. I ride a lot with some friends at a place called TexPlex here in Texas. The people I ride with have Turbo S, X3s. We are becoming very good mechanics. We replace belts, drive shafts quit often. Turbo S have to constantly watch their temp gauge. The X3 Turbo is not as bad. I myself and another friend both have Honda Talons 1000Rs. They are both 2019 models. Neither one of us have had a single issue with our Hondas. Well the other Honda owner has all ready had to replace his tires. So if you want to call that a issue. I have no mods to mine. The other Talon has the stage 4 Trinity exhaust and some 27” Tires cause he like the fast track. He is a really good rider and actually keeps up with the Turbo S’s. He is saving for a turbo. When he gets it I will try and update. I’m not as fast as the others, but man I sure like riding and not working on my Talon every time I ride. One of the guys that drives a Turbo S has probably been riding for about 10 years now, so he is a very aggressive driver. He put some kinda valve that helps cool his belt and a gauge the checks his belt temp. It still gets hot though. I thank the track is 5 miles long. We hit the fast track a few times and take a break. Then we hit the long track. We ride from open to close. So from about 10:00AM -5:00PM I’d say about 4-6 breaks. ( Man those belts get hot ) hope this helps. If my Talon needs more power I’m just gonna skip right past the $6,000 Garret Turbo and buy a Honda V-Tech from a Honda 2000 for $2000. $6K for a Turbo is just F N ridiculous!!!

Oh they did and it works great. I run at sea level and updated the firmware right when it came out just before we went to St Anthony's (5000ft) and it ran awesome. Still wanting a little more fuel but better then not changing at all.

I ride with a few people that have Polaris Turbo S, CanAm X3 Turbos and 2 of us ride 2019 Talons. I’m one of them. The 2 Talons are the only machines that have not broken down once. ( Not Once!! ) Now on all the other machines we have replaced belts, turbos, drive shafts so many times I am tired of trying to keep track. I bought my 2019 Talon 1000R for $17,200. The Turbo is $5,800 so $23,000 total. So that’s about $9,000 less than a Polaris or CanAm with no belts to break. I love shifting the gears when I want. I would say for about the first 40ish feet the Talon takes off faster but then the others catch up. This would probably change with the help of the Turbo witch adds 60 % more power. But all the Talons I have seen get dynode I have only seen a 40-45 HP gain. It will be a while before I get my turbo but the other Talon owner is looking into it rather quickly. I’ll try and keep you posted.

Dunes are just horsepower wars, so I would pick the Turbo RZR. If you were to Turbo the Talon, i'd go with that. Just factory in a couple grand in suspension work.
